Franjo Malgaj

On 6 November 2018 temporary exhibition “Franjo Malgaj” was opened at the Museum of Recent History, marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the World War I, the creation of the State of SHS and the battles for the northern border.

The date of the opening of the exhibition is not accidental, since exactly on that day in 1918, the government in Celje passed into Slovene hands, while the Slovene flag fluttered for the first time in the history of the town from the town hall, today’s museum building.

At this turning point for the history of Slovenian nation, the greatest attention of the exhibition, as indicated by its title, is devoted to the historical role of Franjo Malgaj, fellow patriot from nearby Šentjur, who, on the same day with the group of volunteers, went to Carinthia and with his courage and determination, helped to keep the Mežica valley Slovenian, while losing his life.

As a tribute to the fallen hero and his colleagues, comic authors Marijan Pušavec and Gašper Krajnec published a comic book regarding a life story of Franjo, with which we would like to bring the memory of important events and personalities of significant part of Slovene history closer above all to younger generations.
